HILLSIDE NEWS

COMMUNION On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate Communion – the reenactment of Jesus’ intimate final meal with His disciples before He died on the cross. The bread represents His body, the cup His blood. All are welcome to participate by examining your relationship to Him and surrendering to Him as Lord. Please pick up a communion unit at the table as you enter the worship center. Parents discern when their child is spiritually ready to participate. Gluten-free communion units available – please ask an usher.

Benevolence Offering: On Communion Sunday an offering is taken as you leave the worship service for those in our Hillside family who are experiencing financial difficulties. If contributing, please make checks payable to Hillside Church, or text the dollar amount + the word “benevolence” to 84231.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: HELP US FIGHT CHILD HUNGER!
Every Meal is an organization with the mission to fight child hunger through school and community partnerships. Each Friday they send volunteers into local schools to discreetly place bags of non-perishable food in the backpacks/lockers of children who are signed up for the Every Meal program and are experiencing food insecurity over the weekends. Hillside will be responsible for providing two volunteers to serve every other Friday from 11-11:30am by going into Ridgeview School and placing bags of food in backpacks/lockers while the students are in class. This is an easy way to serve families in our community! Hillside will be responsible for covering just seven Fridays between Feb. 24 and the end of the school year— that’s 14 slots we need to fill. Volunteer once or many times! Can you help? If interested, sign up by Monday, Feb. 14 on the Church Center app or at hillsidemn.org/serve. Questions? Contact Joni Pearson, joni@hillsidemn.org. Note: volunteers will need to have a background check and a short training.

HILLSIDE GO! Father/Daughter Winter Hike & Bonfire
Friday, Feb. 24, Richardson Nature Center, 6-8pm Who wants a S’more? It’s time to kick off Hillside GO! 2023. Hillside GO, a Hillside ministry for dads & daughters, is organizing a winter hike and bonfire at the Richardson Nature Center in Bloomington. Venture out on the trail on a hike or snow shoes* (*bring your own, no rentals available). Then, once you’re off the trail you can warm yourself by the fire pit. We’ll have s’mores and hot chocolate ready to go! There is no charge for this event and no registration required – just show up. For more information visit hillsidemn.org/events.

BOOK RELEASE OPEN HOUSE SIGNING & AUTHOR READ ALOUD Saturday, Feb. 11, 10:00am – 12noon, Worship Center Lobby The Hammett Small Group invites everyone to their Book Release Open House for Andy McGuire’s newest children’s book The Things God Made: Explore God’s Creation Through the Bible, Science and Art! Andy’s books are loved by ALL ages! Purchase a copy on amazon.com or cbd.com before the open house and bring it to be signed. Kids age 12 and under can choose their favorite animal from the book and Andy will include a sketch with his autograph! He will be reading the book at 10:30am. This is a great opportunity to invite friends to come hear about  God’s amazing creation!

TROUT LAKE CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS The Hillside Missions Team is happy to provide Trout Lake Camp scholarships for all kids who are associated with Hillside Church who do not have another church home. The scholarship this year will pay for ½ of the registration cost up to $350. Additionally, we at Hillside believe that Trout Lake Camp can be a great evangelistic opportunity for those not currently involved in a church. If a Hillside member has a friend that is not currently attending any church and would be interested in going to camp with other Hillside kids, we would welcome them to apply as well. To apply, first register for camp at troutlakecamps.org, then complete the Trout Lake Camp Hillside Scholarship form, found on the Church Center app or at hillsidemn.churchcenter.com. Questions? Contact Pam Leafblad (leafbt@aol.com) or Tara Hammett (tara@hillsidemn.org).

FROM THE HILLSIDE MISSIONS TEAM Over the past couple years God has opened the door for Raising Sisters (an initiative of Consumed Ministries with Jamie & Gretchen Miller) to work with women re-entering society post incarceration from the Shakopee Women’s Correctional Facility. There currently is a need for more mentors – women who weekly walk alongside an incarcerated woman beginning six months before her release and six months following, to be a support to her. You would receive training from women who have years of experience as mentors. If interested, visit hillsidemn.org/serve.

SAVE THE DATE: HILLSIDE VBS   Get ready to launch into an out-of-this-world event this summer as we learn how to Shine Jesus’ Light! We have a limited capacity in our VBS program and tend to fill up very quickly. So this year we are asking Hillsiders to be very intentional about inviting friends who do not know Jesus to attend with your kids. Please wait to invite friends who already know Jesus – and don’t share the dates broadly on social media quite yet. Start praying with your kids about friends that they can invite that don’t know that Jesus loves them. Parents and students (entering 6th grade and up), please start thinking about how you can serve and participate in VBS. We will need all hands to have a successful launch! July 17-20, registration will open up on May 1.
