Missions Story: High School Missions Trip 2024
This July, seven high school students from Hillside will be going on a week-long Missions Trip to Chicago! We asked Matthew Bostrom, Director of Next Gen Ministry, to tell us a little more about the trip, and how the Hillside Church family can support it.
Q: Who will be going on the trip?
Matthew: We have seven students and two leaders going on the trip. The students are Daniel Chua, Esther Patenaude, Brielle Wineberg, Meredith Gray, Samantha Wallace, Sam Oakes, and Will Wallace. The leaders are Matthew Bostrom and Bekah Stoll.
Q: What will the students be doing in Chicago? What kinds of projects will you be working on?
Matthew: We will partner and serve with Praying Pelican Missions and Jesus People in Uptown Chicago. Jesus People has an amazing ministry called Cornerstone Community Outreach, which provides lodging, a warming shelter, meals, a free store, classes, and events for people experiencing homelessness. We are excited to work with Cornerstone and Jesus People during our time in Chicago.
Q: What is the purpose of the trip? What are your hopes for what it accomplishes?
Matthew: The purpose of the trip is to join God in bringing the Kingdom of God everywhere we go through word and deed, and to stretch ourselves by stepping outside our comfort zone to care for, minister to, and share the love of God with those in need.
Q: How can we pray for and support students in the months leading up to the trip?
Matthew: You can support us by keeping us in your prayers. Pray for the unity and safety of the team. That we would be sensitive and obedient to the Holy Spirit’s leading. That God would prepare hearts and change the lives of those we are serving but also of our team.
