Remodel Project FAQ

What is the purpose of the remodel?

The purpose of the remodel is to update our church facilities to better serve our congregation and discipleship goals. This includes improving accessibility, enhancing fellowship spaces, updating, and creating a more welcoming and better functioning environment for all. This remodel has been a long time coming as the space issue in our foyer was identified over 10 years ago when our church congregation was almost 150 people smaller than we have today.

What areas of the church will be remodeled?

The old church offices will be torn out to create an inviting and functional space that connects the worship center lobby with the gym foyer. Additionally, the cafeteria will gain a spacious entryway and refreshing improvements.

How long will the remodel take?

The estimated timeline for the remodel is approximately 2-3 months. This timeline is subject to change (based on factors such as construction progress and unforeseen delays,) but the current plan is to begin as soon as we have final permit approval from the city in Sept/October 2024 and we are prayerful that this project will be complete prior to Christmas.

How will this project be paid for?

This project is already fully funded! Through your generous giving to the Future Ready fund that was initiated several years ago, and rent received from UCA that is dedicated to facility improvements, we have been blessed with the opportunity to enhance our church home without the need for a fundraising campaign, taking on any debt, and without impacting our general budget.

Who is doing the designing, planning, and overseeing the project?

The project is being designed by Station 19 with the general contractor being Langer Construction. Oversight of the project will come from the church’s remodel team that includes members of our facility team, elders, and staff members. Station 19 was selected because of the intimate knowledge they have of our facility and familiarity with our needs. Langer construction was chosen based on their extensive experience working on church remodel projects and adaptability to ministry needs during construction.

How will the remodel impact church services and activities?

During the remodel, some areas of the church may be temporarily closed, have restricted access, or be reduced. These will primarily impact the lobby/foyer area and the cafeteria. We will make every effort to minimize disruption and provide alternative arrangements for ministries and activities if needed. We will continue to communicate any changes or impacts as we learn of them. We ask for patience and prayer as we adapt to any unforeseen impacts.

Will there be any changes to the church’s appearance or design?

Yes! The interior remodel will include some much-needed refreshments to the appearance and design of our lobby and cafeteria! The goal is to increase the function of those spaces and replace some items that are worn or outdated, while ensuring that the design of the updated space flows together well with the rest of the building.

Will there be any new features added as a part of the remodel?

Yes! We will be converted Pastor Brian’s old office into a larger Prayer Room right in the center of our church building. We will also be adding a larger ministry counter to allow us to better manage event sign ups, church communications and welcome those that are new to Hillside church. Lastly, we will be creating a larger opening between the cafeteria and lobby to facilitate better flow between those spaces.

Are there any upcoming meetings or informational sessions about the remodel?

Yes, there will be a Remodel Info Session and Elder Town Hall on Tuesday, September 17th from 6:30-8pm here at Hillside Church in the cafeteria.

How can I stay informed about the progress of the remodel?

We will provide regular updates as needed and share timelines as they become available at this webpage and through other communications. Additionally, you can contact the church office with any specific inquiries you may have.

What should I do if I have concerns or questions about the remodel?

Please direct any concerns or questions to the church office so they can connect you to the correct person on the remodel team. We are committed to addressing any issues and keeping open lines of communication throughout the project.

What happens if unexpected issues arise during the remodel?

Unexpected issues may arise, but we have contingency funds reserved to cover financial impacts. Our project team will work to resolve any problems efficiently while keeping the congregation informed of any changes to the timeline or scope.

Can I view the plans for the remodel?

Yes, we have included a couple of visuals of the design and layout here on the webpage.

How can I financially support the remodel project?

While we have the funds to cover this project without fund raising or debt, we have other potential projects that may need to be addressed in the future including:

  1. The reimagining of our children’s ministry space to reduce congestion and improve the safety and security for our children.
  2.  Revamping our room setups and formations to optimize the size and format of our classrooms and group spaces based on ministry needs.
  3. Updates to our parking lot and exterior spaces to allow for a better experience.
  4. Ongoing high-cost maintenance like HVAC, Windows, Roof etc.

If you are passionate about Facility projects and would like to contribute to future projects and needs, we now have a dedicated fund available that you can contribute towards. Go here to give toward that fund.

How can I pray for this project?

For this church remodel project, there are several important areas where we would ask for your prayer:

  1. Pray that the remodel will allow us to better meet our mission to make disciples, here, near and far.
  2. Pray for the church leaders and our partners to have clarity and wisdom in decision making as they plan and oversee the remodel timelines and ministry impacts.
  3. Pray for a spirit of cooperation and understanding as everyone works together towards a common goal.
Pray for the safety of everyone involved in the remodel, including construction workers and everyone in our church.
  4. Pray for the project to be completed on time and within budget. Ask for efficiency in the work and that any unexpected delays or issues be resolved quickly, and that work comes in at or under budget.
  5. Pray for patience and encouragement for all those involved and impacted, especially if challenges arise. Ask for strength to persevere and maintain a positive outlook and an adaptable spirit throughout the remodel process.
