HILLSIDE NEWS
STUDENT MINISTRY – Scholarships Needed Trout Lake Camps fall youth retreats are full of what students need to navigate their world and point them to Jesus! This year the retreat is Nov. 4-6 and, as in past years, is anticipated to be one of the highlights of the student ministry year! The cost per student is $155 and there are a few students who need financial help. Would you be willing to support student ministry and help a student go on the Fall Retreat? You can donate on your ChurchCenter app or at hillsidemn.org/giving (the drop down will give you the option to choose “Student Ministries Scholarships”).
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD BOXES Deliver great joy and the Good News of Jesus to children in need around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes packed with small toys, school supplies and personal care items. Your box becomes a tangible expression of God’s love. For many children, it is their first gift ever! For easy-to-follow directions on choosing an age group, boy or girl, what items are approved to go into a shoebox and the deadline for drop off, visit: hillsidemn.org/serve. When your box is filled and ready to go, bring it to the Worship Center lobby. The LAST day boxes will be accepted is Sunday, Nov. 13. This year our kids in Children’s Ministries have a goal of collecting 150 shoeboxes! Let’s help them! Questions? Contact Tara Hammett: tara@hillsidemn.org.
PRAYER FOR THE PERSECUTED CHURCH We will pray on Sunday, Nov. 6, for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are currently being persecuted for their bold declaration of faith in Jesus. Join us in the library from 8:30 – 8:55am — before the first service — to pray for hope, healing, and freedom. In years past we’ve worn orange to honor them and remember their sacrifices, many of them in prison. If you want to wear orange on Nov. 6, you probably won’t be alone!
THE GOSPEL PROJECT The Gospel Project is a chronological Bible study that examines how ALL Scripture gives testimony to Jesus and God’s plan of redemption! Each lesson stands on its own – join us at any time, Sundays, 9:15am, room 156.
HOUSE OF PRAYER – CANCELED House of Prayer will not be meeting this Wednesday, due to MEA week. It will resume Oct. 26.
HHA EVENT Hillside High Adventure is a group of fathers and sons (age 5 yrs. & older), and mentors and boys who meet each month to build godly young men through outdoor adventure. All males age 5 and up are invited to HHA’s next event: the annual Nerf Gun Battle! (A tradition packed with tons of fun, that you won’t want to miss.) The battle takes place Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9am – Noon. Park at Oak Grove Elementary school (playing will actually take place in the hockey rink area and woods on the other side of Humboldt). You’ll be given a map on the day of the event. A great activity to invite male friends and family, to enjoy a morning of fellowship in God’s beautiful outdoor creation. Cost $10/$30 max per family. For more information contact Kris Dorn – Kris@kdpainting.com. Register at: hillsidemn.org/highadventure
MARRIAGE CLASS Have you ever wondered what God had in mind when He created marriage? Why are men and women so different? How can we communicate effectively? How do we get over some of the hurt from our past? These and many other questions will be answered in the five-week Marriage Class led by Caryl Hayward that begins Oct. 26, 6:30pm, in room 207. Register at hillsidemn.org/adulteducation. (The class meets until Nov. 30 – there is no class Nov. 23.)
MASTERS WARRIORS – MARTIAL ARTS Learn a blended style of martial arts that will equip you physically and mentally, and spiritually strengthen your walk with Jesus, Mondays, 6:30 – 8:30pm, in the cafeteria. Open to men and women and students (age 11 and up). The class is ongoing through the year and is always open to new students. Now is a good time to join! BRIDAL SHOWER Hillside women: The Kurschner Small Group ladies invite you to a shower they are hosting for Hannah Brecheisen on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10am, in the worship center lobby. Hannah and Ryan Liu will be married at the end of December and are registered at theknot.com. Hannah would love to start a collection of simple recipes.
