Meet the Staff: Alexi Abel, Ministry Assistant
Welcome to our “Meet the Staff” column, where we’ll get to know each of Hillside’s staff members a little better, “Q & A” style!
Name:
Alexi Abel
What is your job title?
Ministry Assistant.
What are your job responsibilities?
I oversee the Hillside calendar, coordinate baptisms, child dedications, New Attenders lunches, plan some all-church events, choose songs for worship each week, manage social media accounts, oversee logistics for short-term missions trips and Israel Tour, answer phones in the office, and much more 🙂
How long have you worked at Hillside?
5 years
Tell us a little bit about your background:
I grew up in St. Louis Park in the home my parents still live in today. I am the middle of 3 girls in my family. I went to University of Northwestern St. Paul after high school and studied Communications with a minor in Spanish. I fell in love with events and Andrew Abel in college 🙂 We got to know each other working weddings in Naz Chapel. I continued working in the Events Office at Northwestern as the Wedding Coordinator after I graduated.
What are some favorite parts about your job and/or working at Hillside in general?
I love planning worship sets! I enjoy the challenge of finding songs that fit a specific theme and also are instrumentally interesting and fit the style of our church and worship team. I also really enjoy decorating for events and making things look aesthetically pleasing.
Name a favorite passage of Scripture or book of the Bible, and why you like it.
I like 1 John because I feel loved when I read it. It makes me think of a best friend of sibling writing me a letter like “guys this I what you need to know. This is how you live in the world today. ” It’s straightforward and very applicable.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy thrifting and occasionally repurposing furniture. Finding new music on Spotify while in a cozy spot with a cup of coffee is my happy place. I also love cooking! It’s hard for me to follow recipes because I always want to add my own touch!
What are a few of your favorite things these days?
A few of my favorite worship songs right now are Ancient Gates (The Worship Initiative Version), My King Forever by Josh Baldwin, and Plead The Blood by Cody Carnes. Jonathan Ogden is one of my go-to music artists for chill background music.
Household/family info?
We have one son who is in kindergarten at UCA this year. He’s loving it and its fun to all be in the same building everyday!
What city (or general area of the Twin Cities) do you live in?
Richfield.
